Uncharted: Drakes Fortune Review

Posted: Saturday, June 13th, 2009 @ 11:29 AM under Games

I signed up for GameFly last Monday. I've thought about it for a while, and finally decided too many games I've bought weren't worth but a fraction of the price. Anyways...

I had originally played the demo of Uncharted: Drakes Fortune through a free download on the Playstation Store. I really liked it so it was my first game I got from GameFly.

Well, as you know (if you've played the demo or anything) the game is basically about you getting stuck on an island whilst searching for Francis Drake's treasure. It's a bit of an action game, shooter, and lots of puzzles. The graphics are also extremly good on the eyes.

One thing I didn't like, which isn't a big gripe because it's a one time thing is the inital load of the game took like 2 minutes literally. After that, I dove in. I played half through in my first sitting. The gameplay itself was a bit similar to Assassin's Creed as far as the camera/pov and such go, so thankfully I was used to moving that way.

You are given a variety of puzzles throughout the game. If you've ever played God of War it's similar to that. You might need to turn something here or there, or line them up in proper order to open doors. You also get to scale lots of buildings and stuff (you have to, actually) so the game never really got bored. By time you did a lot of one thing it was something else. From scaling to shooting to puzzle solving.

One thing I also liked about this game, unlike say Metal Gear Solid 4 (and lots of other games), was that the cinematics weren't terribly long and actually moved the story along rather well. The storyline to this game was pretty good.

I'm not going to spoil any of the game for you but it was definitly worth a play. It's easily one of the better games I've played on PS3 and would definitly be worth a retail purchase.

So if you've not played Drakes Fortune yet why not hop on to the Playstation Store and check out the demo. I'm sure you'll like it, and if not, well, that's what demos are for!

That's about it. I'm no pro reviewer but definitly wanted to spread the word that this game kicked ass and you should give it a try.
