Playstation 3 is becoming a joke

Look, I know it may seem like I complain about my playstation 3 a lot and I must say you don't even know the half of it. This thing has turned in to such a piece of shit that I'd fucking break it in two if I didn't have $2,000 worth of games for the thing.

Like most everyone else you'll find if you google playstation 3 wont load games the problems are pretty much the same across the board. The options are a new ps3, a $150 possible "fix from sony", to buy a new laser yourself and install it (this is issue 99% of the time) or you can do like me and dissassemble your piece of shit (Yes, I'm a 60 gb person, which seems to be the most common source of the problems) and attempt to clean it and put it back together.

I've been doing the latter, but I can only do it so much. Later that day, or no more than 3-5 days after the reassembly/fixing it just goes out again. I'm so fucking sick of it and I'm not paying $150 for a refurbished ps3 when a new one is barely $300, but screw that, I paid $400 for mine when I bought it. These are supposed to have a 10 year shelf life; I got barely 1.

I've reached my boiling point where now I strongly advise people not to even purchase a playstation 3, even at the $100 cheaper price tag, because essentially it's not going to last long. Even if you don't use it too much it will shit out before too long.

I'm not a die hard console fan because I was a computer gamer for 10 years but I'm about to switch back, assuming I can liquidate most of my ps3 stuff. The few games I do enjoy have horrible downfalls, such as the Call of Duty games: peer to peer in an fps? LOLLLL!! and when I heard the new CoD: MW2 was going to be the same I had to pass on it. Couple that with the fact the few solid games left take only a day or two to beat (like the Uncharted series which rocks) or even games like Assassins Creed (which I do want to play the 2nd one still) aren't games you can replay all the time. The ones with a multiplayer online prescense all seem to lack good multiplayer functionality. Something PC games do not (well, except the new CoD: MW2 since they axed dedicated servers on the PC even!)

You know, the ps3 is pretty simple unit and I really cannot understand how they can have so many problems. Reading a PS3 forum is almost as bad as reading an xbox forum as far as problems. The problems are becoming more and more common and I just can't throw more money at it to have the same problem come right back.

I'm writing this because I'm too fucking pissed off with this damn thing to dissassemble it. I threw one of my games in to a wall in an attempt to break the fucker but what do you know the damn disc took the beating without even a crack, but your PS3 can't even take minute dust without failing completly. Something is wrong here.

Maybe it's all the fucking PS3 commercials I see on TV anymore. Like they're all that and a bag of chips. Yeah, they're like chips already, the bag someone crushes up and puts back on the damn rack. I spend atleast 30 minutes everytime I play my PS3 fucking with it to get it to even load a game which usually doesn't work so I give up. For example, in the last 2 days I've wasted atleast an hour trying to get a game to load but I've come to the conclusion it's time to take it apart again which I just did less than 3 weeks ago -- but hey, lets not give it that much credit. The problems started the same day I cleaned it, again.

Essentially I need to buy a new one, but that's stupid because then all my games lose their data. I could spend $150 to have sony try to fix it, but why should I. I can buy a new one for almost the same price. I can eBay a new laser unit and install it myself, but I shouldn't have to. Expensive electronics should not be failing so shortly in their life, but this is all we get anymore as consumers. It's amazing you can make something as complicated as a car or computer which are used all the time and rarely fail but you can't make some simple ass console that can do what it does. I'm referancing the xbox here too because the problems with that are immense as well.

Why, as consumers, do we allow corporations to continously do this to us? I would be so irrate if it took me some time to save up for my PS3 like I'm sure a lot of people have done, or got it as a present.

My playstation 1 never had any problems. PS2 had some issues. PS3 has a lot of them. Does this mean in 2015-2018 when PS4 comes out that we should know better to even pay $5 for it? I know I will, but I know most won't. Everyone assumes the latest is the greatest but the more stuff you buy in your lifetime, specifically electronics, you'll learn it's often not the case.

I'm not much into making threats or anything but I would seriously punch the makers of the PS3 in the fucking face if I ever see them. E3: 2k10 watch out, just joking. I don't fly.

That's my rant. I'll probably take it apart tommorrow and fiddle even though that buys me at best a few days before I have to do it again. I've got to the point I don't even bother screwing it together or putting most the casing back on because you have to turn around and rip it right back apart.

Should I just spend $50-75 on a new laser unit? Probably, but again, even though money isn't the issue I don't think it's something I should have to do. The most annoying ass part? Probably the fact it will play movies and anything else fine, just not games; you know, the reason we bought the thing in the first place. Look, Blu-Ray is sexy and it's one of the reasons I bought a PS3 but it's not the reason I bought my PS3. I bought it to play games, as the stack of 40~ I have sitting next to me might indicate. How many games do I get to play on it? Well, no need to be a math major here... simply zero.

It's all good though, because should it of worked I'd probably just be bitching about how shitty the game I'm playing is or has become. Or the shitty network code that people steal from other problematic games without fixing (Hi, Treyarch, CoD4: MW ring a bell?) but that's life.

Oh, and if I've not said it yet, I'll say it now: Fuck you Sony! Fuck you Playstation!. I sure do miss the days where all consoles could be fixed by just blowing in to the box lightly (ala Nintentdo).
