... oh no! you found me.

Why is the internet so boring these days?

You know, I've been online for a long damn time. Almost half my life. I've been using the internet regularly since 1996. I've seen lots of stuff come and go, but I've never been this bored.

I'm unsure what it is, but the internet is just boring. Let me explain a little, because it's definitly not due to a lack of websites. There's more now than ever, but they're all the same, hundreds of millions of them cloned copies of the latest trend or fad which doesn't help me any.

Social networking is the dumbest thing I've ever heard of so that right there kills half the web these days. I have my own porn site too, which kills half the remaining web. I cannot grasp the idea of wanting to tell everyone your every move throughout the day; furthermore, I cannot begin to comprehend how people got under the impression other people actually care, but I guess that's the thing to do these days. Maybe it's because I have a girlfriend and I'm not looking for a piece of ass that I don't see a point to MySpace, or FaceBook, or another version of the first two.

I don't get Twitter either. So... it's a place to post what you're doing right now incase someone wanted to know.... did the phone go out of style? Do people not have friends anymore? What's the deal? Is it because some celebrities pay people to post for them and others assume it's the cool thing to do? I don't get the latest trends but I hope it loses it's appeal some day.

Maybe I'm just a burned out crybaby. It's possible. I only really use the PC to work now, and to read a few message boards but that's about it. Sure, I run a few websites and still program but I can remember being able to surf the web for hours and keep my self entertained. Now I surf for hours just to find something good or sorting through ad infested websites who don't have real content but I just made someone a quarter.

Hmm.. It's all good though. Playstation 3 and TV seem better to me these days and I honestly never thought I'd prefer TV over the internet, but it's true.

I sometimes lose my motivation to do anything at all online due to the boredom and repeatitiveness of being on it. If I didn't work online, I'd probably not be online and I'd be totally fine with that because it sucks. All the good websites ran by people who cared about us, the visitors, have long been replaced by corporate and quasi-corporate type people only to be replaced with half assed stale content with lots of popups or ads or other inconvienant distractions.

Maybe it's because I just don't look hard enough, but damn, I need some new websites to go to, but where? Where do you go? Do you go anywhere other than to talk to other people? I used to chat to people online but it lost it's appeal around 2002-2003. It's also true a lot of my favorite websites have went down over the years, and even more true that it's harder to learn about things that might be cool because the only people I talk to online are customers and employees. I'm in a self induced catch 22. I suppose I'm to blame, partially.

Well, that's really all I wanted to see. Feel free to leave a comment with a website to checkout, or just plug your own. You know, I was hoping writing this little rant would of ate up 4 hours so UPS would be here and I could attempt to clean my PS3 but of course it only took a mere 10 minutes. Damnit all to hell.

Ok, so I signed up for an account just to comment. I then activated the link and noticed you said you haven't posted here in over a year, so who knows if you'll get this message or not. I agree the Internet is boring now. Most website are indeed the same. If it's not social networking (and that's a broad category) it's websites trying to sell you something, blogs or news. I partially hold Google responsible. A lot of people use Google and there's millions of websites out there that never make it to the top on Google. Given the chance to make it near the top the Internet might not be so damned boring. There's nothing wrong with social networking but it creates a creative gap. It's just not hip to be different any more and if you are, like I was saying earlier about Google, you are unknown. My suggestion would be to try a different search engine, at least do a search on another crawler once per week, you might be pleasantly surprised.
