Fedor signs with Strikeforce, August 15th card stacked
Posted: Saturday, August 8th, 2009 @ 07:50 PM under TV
I know I'm a bit late on the news about Fedor, but, I've been a bit too busy to keep up with some of the MMA scene the last few weeks.
Strikeforce continues to sign top talent by getting Fedor for a 3 fight deal, something the UFC has failed miserably at for a few years now (much like their failed TV deals, and other things). As if the Fedor signing isn't big enough news in it's own right, but the former August 15th super card ran in to lots of problems along the way.
We had Alistar's hand injury from his bouncer battle in Holland. Josh Thompson, as per usual, is plauged with another injury. Add on top of that mister Joe Riggs killing the Diaz fight and what once was a great card turned in to a.. dissappointment.
Strikeforce wouldn't have any of it. Instead, we get a card that I think is actually better. First off, we have one of my favorite Japanese fighters in Mitsuhiro Ishida stepping in to fight Gilber Melendez. This will probably be a better fight to watch. Also, instead of Nick Diaz vs Joe Riggs, which would of been good in it's own right, we get to see a solid Jay Hieron instead fight against Diaz. I'm not only a big fan of Diaz, but also of Hieron. Oh... lets not forget that now the bound-to-be-bitching Babalu vs Moussasi fight has been shuffled to Strikeforce.
It's almost as if Strikeforce is teasing me. Replacing super good fights with better ones because they have to; because they can do it. Everyone is complaining about Affliction this or Affliction that. Lets face it folks -- Affliction never was competition for MMA promoters. It was a nice "super fight card" type of show but too irregular to be a contendor. Strikeforce, on the other hand, is the real deal.
I know UFC 101 (zZzZz) is on today but it's far from worth $45, ecspecially in this economy, but I am super pumped and looking forward to this Strikeforce August 15th card as much as any other this year. It looks, on paper, to be possibly Card of the Year.
I'd normally throw out some predictions but most of these fights are too close to speculate, so I'll just skip that and watch. Scott Coker, CEO of Strikeforce, also said Fedor will fight before the end of the year, most likely in October or November.
Strikeforce just keeps getting better. UFC, time to send errand boy Dana White to talk like a 10 year old wigger to the press and bash them -- the true sign they threaten your business.
That's all folks. I know I'll be one of the hundreds of thousands to watch this awesome card, will you?
