... oh no! you found me.

So I started a free web directory

Literally, that's the domain. Nifty huh. The free web directory is only a few days old and pretty empty. I have high hopes though. I'm attempting something a bit different than most, and if it fails then I guess that's life eh.

You know, you can help the web directory out by submitting your website for free.

I'm still debating if the way I invisioned it is going to work out or not, but even more I'm curious if the fact I did not add a bunch of sites from the get go might hurt it because it's so empty. I might have to resort to adding some sites manually, which I've already added around 10 by hand but it's not something I really want to do. The sites that come by default on most directories really don't need help getting noticed online and I want my directory to actually do that.

If you've been around the internet as long as I have I'm sure you know what getting "slashdotted" means. Well, I hope one day my directory will do something similar, but obviously it wouldn't be as big traffic wise as actually getting slashdotted.

The free web directories basically will randomize listings in no particular order. Most online directories sort by who joined first, how many clicks have been sent out, or something like alphabetical. That's so problematic for anyone who didn't join first, start with an A, or have lots of out hits. The reality is that any good web directory isn't going to be logging clicks out. If you are listed on a directory who does not directly link to you then you're not really getting much use out of it.

Anyways, the goal of the directory is to provide everyone the chance of getting on the first page at any time regardless if you're CNN or the guy who just put his first siteonline using DreamWeaver.

It's not fully developed right now, but it is live and if anyone out there is reading and has a website I'd appreciate it if you submit your site to a directory on my site. I'm pretty sure it'll get approved and eventually it'll pay off for you, and besides, I'd totally do it for you and it only takes a second. You don't need to link back to it, or add any kind of code.

There's a lot of things I want to add after I get 500-1000 websites added but for now that seems in the very very distant future. I'd be happy with 250 that actually come from real people.
